THE Penang government has given out 10,000 face masks to Penang Medical Practitioners’ Society (PMPS) for them to be distributed to medical practitioners in the state.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state government is concerned about the safety and well-being of the frontliners.
“We hope that the society can help us to distribute the face masks to our medical frontliners in the state,” Chow said before handing over the cartons of face mask to the society president Assoc Prof Dr Sivakumar S. Balakrishnan in Komtar today. Also present was PMPS president-elect Dr Parmjit Singh Kuldip Singh.
It was also a great day for Penang when several organisations joined in to combat the Covid-19 outbreak.
Tamarins Group Sdn Bhd, represented by director Tay Kean Huat, donated RM200,000 to the Penang Covid-19 Fund to help the needy.
The Global Federation of Chinese Business Women (Penang Chapter) contributed RM45,000 to the fund, while its founding chairman Cheng Mei Man donated RM100,000. Vice-chairman Wang Pek Ching contributed RM20,000 to the Penang Covid-19 Fund.
Meanwhile, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) contributed RM2 million to the state government to purchase medical and clinical equipment. TNB was represented by TNB (Business Partner-Penang) manager Norsalizawati Hashmawi, TNB (Business Partner-Penang) manager Abd Manan Abd Rahman and head of customer services U. Ananda Rani. Also present was state Health department director Dr Asmayani Khalid.
Earlier, the Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce donated 100,000 face masks to the Penang government.
