Star Wars Writer Explains Why Rise Of Skywalker Had So Many Rewrites

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker reveals cut Kylo Ren and Darth Vader moment

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker‘s co-writer has revealed why the film had so many rewrites.

Speaking recently, screenwriter Chris Terrio explained that the script went through a lot of adjustments, as there was a kind of trial and error mentality towards plotting the story.

According to Terrio, there was also a lot of “course-correcting”.

“I’ve never rewritten a film as much as this one,” Terrio told Business Insider.

“It’s like a tide. There’s a new script every morning. But we just keep going at it and going at it, loosely thinking that it’s not good enough. It’s never good enough.”

He added: “Luckily, the production team is so good that they can shift and adjust.

“We’re course-correcting as we go – we’re trying things, and some things don’t work and some things aren’t ambitious enough. Some things are overly ambitious.

“Some things are too dense. Some things are too simple. Some things are too nostalgic. Some things are too out-of-left-field. We’re finding our balance.”

While it seems the Rise of Skywalker script went through a lot of different versions, one of the film’s stars has denied claims that a JJ Abrams final cut of the movie exists.

Greg Grunberg, who played Snap Wexley in the movie, recently said he “would be surprised” if that were true, given his close friendship with the Rise of Skywalker director.
