Penang, 2 April 2020 – Penang’s first drive-through screening service for COVID-19 is now available at the Pantai Hospital Penang here in Bayan Baru, starting 1 April 2020.
According to the latest report announced by Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, as of 1 April 2020, there are 142 new COVID-19 cases and six more deaths reported, bringing the total number of positive cases to 2, 908 and the death toll to 45.
This COVID-19 drive-through screening service would be the first in Penang to unveil such a service, designed to curb the spread of COVID-19.The objective of the drive-thru is for individuals to reduce contact with others, make it convenient for people to get tested without having to leave your car.
This drive-through screening service uses the Polymerase Chain Reaction technique or PCR Test is a gold standard and has a higher sensitivity to detect COVID-19 compared to the Rapid Test. The PCR technique has an accuracy rate of 99%, while many Rapid Tests in the market has an accuracy of less than 80%. Some as low as 60%.
Our labs have also been prepared and verified to have met the stringent requirements set by MOH Malaysia. We are proud to say that to-date, we are one of the very few in the country that meets their standard.
The drive-through screening service takes around few minutes and the results would be available between 48 to 72 hours and the result will be emailed or couriered to the shared address during registration. A hospital spokesperson said the test will cost about RM 600 for each test kit.
The drive-through screening service are available from 8:30 am to 5.00 pm from Mondays to Friday. Those interested need to call the hospital’s care line at +6012-5771889 or +6017-5782899 where they also need to answer a series of queries about their health condition before they can be subjected to the test which comes in the form of a nose swab.
