Kuala Lumpur, 8 th April 2020 – With the Covid-19 pandemic bringing lives to a standstill in the entire country, Touch ‘n Go eWallet is extending a helping hand to the underprivileged communities by providing a better solution for the rakyat to offer financial relief directly to local non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
As the nation’s choice for cashless transactions, Touch ‘n Go eWallet wants to highlight the plight and needs of those in our network such as Kechara Soup Kitchen, Tzu Chi Buddhist Foundation and Yayasan Generasi Gemilang. Proceeds are channeled directly to the NGOs in Malaysia enabling them to better answer the needs of the homeless, vulnerable and low income families in a shorter time thereby cutting out lengthy administrative paperwork.
Ignatius Ong, CEO of TNG Digital Sdn Bhd exclaimed, “This situation is a challenging time for us all – especially for our brave heroes made up of health care and public service workers who are selflessly working around the clock during this Covid-19 pandemic. We want to do our part in supporting efforts through our user base of over 10million by advocating a digital, cashless manner in which financial aid can be given, not just as an immediate response to Covid-19 but as long-term solution. In fact, we urge NGOs who have been relying on traditional methods of receiving donations, to get in touch with us so that we can assist in providing a safe, seamless
and quicker avenue through our eWallet.”
“Donations via QR codes isn’t a new thing. Touch ‘n Go eWallet launched JOM INFAK at mosques in 2018, and we saw an increase in donations due to the convenience of donating anytime, anywhere. With the MCO in place, users can continue to donate by scanning the QR codes found on our Facebook page or save the QR code image in the phone gallery. Then, share it with family and friends through messaging apps thereby increasing the opportunity of donations to these NGOs,” added Ong.
YAM Tengku Zatashah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, Patron of Make-A-Wish Malaysia, a volunteer and founder #zerofoodwastage Kechara Soup Kitchen shares, “I am involved with many NGOs and charities such as Make-A-Wish Malaysia and Kechara Soup Kitchen, having a QR code such as the one provided by Touch ‘n Go eWallet is super helpful to us. As an avid Touch ‘n Go eWallet user, I can regularly donate funds to the various charities especially during this MCO period since I can’t be on the ground volunteering. It’s fast and done in a simple click”.
With so many NGOs requiring aid, this initiative kickstarted on the Touch ’n Go eWallet’s social media platforms, in-app and is also now available on a dedicated web page on www.tngdigital.com.my.
“We are grateful that Touch ‘n Go eWallet continues to enable non-profit organizations. This allows Yayasan Generasi Gemilang to expand our channels to receive public donations that are vital to support the work of increasing access to quality education. During this time of the MCO, funds received also allow us to provide food and urgent aid for low-income families,” says Melissa Ngiam, CEO, Yayasan Generasi Gemilang.
As Malaysians brave through this tough time, it is imperative that as a nation, we band together to help in whatever manner and means possible to help those who may be more severely affected by this unprecedented crisis. Chong Chuan Yit, Head of Multimedia & Communication of Tzu Chi Foundation adds, “Tzu Chi Foundation relies fully on public donations and your goodwill will go towards our COVID19 Assistance Fund to aid the vulnerable in this time of need. With offices located in all states across the country, having a Touch ‘n Go eWallet QR code ensures a sustainable donation platform in the long run to continue the good work by Tzu Chi volunteers.” To make a contribution, here’s how:
